Week 8’s Thursday Night Football game was originally one we had circled on our calendars, as a high-flying affair between the Cardinals and Packers sounds like must-see TV. Over the course of the last few days, however, it’s become far less appealing, as Davante Adams and Allen Lazard have been placed on the COVID-19 list, eliminating them from this game. That does, however, mean there may be some value to open up in DFS formats, especially SuperDraft. Below are my top-three plays for Week 8’s Thursday slate on SuperDraft DFS.
Aaron Jones, RB, Green Bay Packers (1.35x score multiplier)
Jones is seemingly the last man standing in this offense, and luckily he’s a running back who can do it all. He’s averaging a career-high 3.7 receptions per game (26.6 receiving yards) on top of his 12.7 rushing attempts and 57.7 rushing yards per game, giving him a rock-solid floor even against one of the better run defenses in football. The hole in this Cardinals’ run defense is their inability to guard receiving running backs, as they’ve allowed over 40 receiving yards per game to the position and in a game where the Packers are down their top two receivers, Jones could be the de facto No. 1. With his receiving upside and touchdown equity, Jones is an elite option with a 35% score multiplier.
Randall Cobb, WR, Green Bay Packers (2.2x)
With both Adams and Lazard out, there’s roughly 45% of the targets in Green Bay that are now vacated. This sounds like a ripe opportunity for Randall Cobb out of the slot. Cobb only has 18 targets on the season, but his rapport with Rodgers should vault him to the top of the priority list in the passing game. His matchup in the slot with Byron Murphy Jr. isn’t an easy one. He’s only allowed a 57% catch rate and 0.27 fantasy points per route. However, the expectation of added volume should mitigate any matchup concerns in a game where Green Bay’s target share should be quite concentrated through Cobb and one or two other pass-catchers.
DeAndre Hopkins, WR, Arizona Cardinals (1.4x)
Sure, Hopkins has had a down year, but a 40% scoring bonus is a gift for a player like him. He comes into the game with a questionable thanks to a hamstring injury, but reports indicate him playing. Suiting up against the Packers’ secondary is always an exploitable matchup, but especially now with Jaire Alexander sidelined. Hopkins should see a lot of rookie Eric Stokes. Stokes has played well this season, only allowing a 56% catch rate, but a rookie cornerback against one of the greatest receivers ever is a bit different. Take this value and run with it in a stack with Kyler Murray. Consider filling out the rest of your lineup with the Packers’ value pieces.
