Steph Curry, Golden State Warriors
The man coined “Threezus”, arguably the greatest shooter of all time, could not be left off out of the discussion. Last year he averaged 32 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 5.8 assists per game which is just absurd. Mind you, those are career-high numbers for points and rebounds.
This year, his production is likely to take a slight impact with the return of veteran shooter Klay Thompson coming off of his injuries, however, you cannot ignore the Curry effect. He is an incredible basketball player and daily fantasy point guard.
Trae Young, Atlanta Hawks
Trae established himself in last year’s post-season as an absolute assassin on the court. He averaged 29.3 points and 9.4 assists per game last season, with a credible 13.8 assists per 100 possessions. On a solid Atlanta team, Young is the first option scorer and should continue to have a big impact on their success or failure entering his fourth NBA season.
Expect a few more “shimmies” this year, and feel free to shimmy yourself after you draft him in your daily fantasy basketball lineups. He’s likely to finish as a top 5 fantasy point guard for the 3rd year in a row.
Damian Lillard, Portland Trail Blazers
An absolute pillar of consistency, Lillard is a regular amongst our top 5 point guard conversations. We’ll check his numbers later. I’d like to first point out, Dame Time is near all the time, only playing less than 70 games twice in his career, you can usually bet on him.
Last year he averaged 28.8 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 7.5 assists per game. In fact, the last time Dame dropped below 25 points and 5 assists per game was in 2014. Like I said, a pillar of consistency. Death, taxes, and DameTime.
Luka Doncic, Dallas Mavericks
The 21-year-old Slovenian Stud has established himself as one of the best players in the entire league. It goes without saying that he is on our top fantasy point guards list. During the offseason, he finalized a 5-year extension with the Mavs and is poised for another star-studded year. In 2020 he averaged 27.7 points, 8 rebounds, and 8.6 assists per game.
He remains the number one scoring option for the Mavericks and one of the most influential players in the league, Opposing teams will continue to center their defensive game-prep around attempting to contain, not stop Luka. You can’t stop greatness. One might even say, “Luka is inevitable”.
Lamelo Ball, Charlotte Hornets
Yes, we said it. Lamelo Ball is a top fantasy point guard for the 20212-2022 season. His 2020 stat line of 15.7 points, 5.9 rebounds, and 6.1 assists per game was enough to earn him Rookie of the Year honors. After beginning the year as an off-the-bench player, he took over the role and then promptly got injured. That being said, in his sophomore campaign, he has been named the starter and his floor stat line projections are exactly what he averaged last year.
Lamelo is on a mid-floor, high-ceiling Hornets team. Everyone from the players, to coaches, and the ownership group recognize that the Charlotte Hornets have a target on their back and there is no room for complacency. Look to Lamelo to lead this offensive unit in 2021-2022.
