Thursday’s small MLB DFS slate is over, and it’s time to look at how it played out. There were not a ton of runs scored, but there was a lot of power with 17 home runs in just four games. Let’s start with the players I had my eye on most.
Pitchers
Huascar Ynoa, Atlanta Braves
He was the chalkiest pitcher on the slate at almost 55% ownership in my contest. He had a rough first inning, giving up two earned runs, but he would settle down giving up just one hit the rest of the way. His seven strikeouts really helped save his fantasy output for a total of 33.25 points with a 1.9x multiplier.
Carlos Hernández, Kansas City Royals
Pitching six scoreless innings, allowing just three hits, and getting the win, Hernández put up a very solid performance. I wrote about walks sometimes being an issue for him and he did allow three free passes. Unfortunately, he only recorded one strikeout which kept his ceiling down. At just 15.9% ownership in my contest, I’ll take his 29.25 fantasy points thanks to his 1.95x multiplier.
Hitters
Adam Duvall and Austin Riley, Atlanta Braves
It took a while for the Braves to put up a crooked number, but they did end up as the highest-scoring team on the slate with seven runs. Duvall hit a home run in his fourth straight game with a 1.6x multiplier to score 21.60 fantasy points. Austin Riley ripped an RBI double down the left-field line in the fourth inning and reached base again later after getting hit by a pitch. His 1.55x multiplier helped him to 13.95 fantasy points. A little disappointing for Riley but I’ll take it.
Salvador Pérez, Kansas City Royals
Despite the Royals scoring six runs, most of the damage was done by Nicky Lopez and Hunter Dozier. Pérez was the most disappointing and lowest-scoring player in my lineup with just 5.85 fantasy points thanks to a single and scoring a run.
Slate overview
Overall my pitchers performed well, but fading both José Berríos and Nestor Cortes Jr. because of the stellar lineups they were facing did not quite work out. Berríos was the highest-scoring pitcher on the slate at 43.89 points thanks to eight strikeouts. Cortes posted 31 fantasy points outscoring Hernández. I’m happy with how the Braves stack worked out, which was four of my six hitter spots.
