Thursday’s small MLB DFS slate is over, and it’s time to look at how it played out. There were a couple of huge performances that broke the slate. Let’s start with the players I had my eye on most.

Pitchers

Unfortunately, Framber Valdez was scratched from his start due to a cut on his hand. Dietrich Enns came in after the opener as expected and pitched a solid four innings allowing one earned run, three hits and one walk while striking out three. He also got the win en route to 28 points thanks to his 2x multiplier.

Hitters

Trey Mancini was out of the lineup for the fourth straight game with abdominal soreness. Mike Zunino was great, hitting his 31st home run of the season totaling 24.75 points thanks to his 1.5x multiplier. Teammate Randy Arozarena was disappointing with just a sac fly in his first at-bat for 6.8 points. Yordan Alvarez’s walk and RBI double netted him 10.35 fantasy points.

Slate overview

Fading Kyle Hendricks worked out well as he allowed seven earned runs, six hits and three walks in 3.2 innings pitched for -16.46 points. On the exact opposite end of the spectrum, Jordan Montgomery absolutely dominated the Orioles with a career-high 12 strikeouts, breaking the slate for 59.64 points. It is just his second career game posting double-digit strikeouts. Ultimately, I’m happy with how Enns pitched and would have loved to see what Valdez could have done had he started.

I briefly mentioned rostering Bryce Harper, and he was the other slate-breaking performance of the evening. Harper went 3-4 with a home run, two doubles, three runs, and four RBI for a whopping 49.48 fantasy points. The Rays and Astros were my favorite stacks. While the Astros did very well scoring 12 runs, the Rays were disappointing with just five runs. More from Alvarez would have been nice considering how well the Astros did, but I won’t complain about double-digit points.
