We had an exciting weekend of golf at Muirfield Village this past weekend with Collin Morikawa edging out Justin Thomas in a playoff to secure his first victory of 2020. The tour is staying in Muirfield this week for the Memorial Tournament which boasts as good of a field as you will see. Tiger Woods will be making his first appearance on the Tour since playing at the Genesis Open in February. Bryson DeChambeau, Rory Mcilroy, Justin Thomas, Dustin Johnson, and Brooks Koepka are among the others who will join him. With this great of a field, it will be hard to narrow down your choices to fill in your lineup. I managed to narrow my choices down to four players starting with the best player in golf right now.

Bryson DeChambeau 1X
Yes, I understand that Bryson DeChambeau is currently ranked as the 7th best player in the world. However, there is no disputing that at this very moment, nobody is playing better golf than him. In his last seven tournaments, DeChambeau has finished 1st, 6th, 8th, 3rd, 4th, 2nd, and 5th. In that span, he averaged 94.42 fantasy points per tournament. This is the type of fantasy value you would expect to see from Tiger Woods in his prime. His well-documented body transformation has clearly done wonders for him on the golf course.
After a week off, I do not see DeChambeau slowing down. In the last two years at the Memorial tournament, he has finished 22nd and 1st. Given the way he is rolling right now, it is more than fair to expect him to be right at the top of the leaderboard again this year. Even at a multiplier value of 1X, there should not be any doubt that Bryson will provide strong value to your lineup.
Patrick Cantlay 1.05X
When it comes to consistency, there are few golfers better than Cantlay right now. After coming in 7th place at the Workday Charity Open this past weekend, Cantlay has now made the cut in his last 17 tournaments. This basically is a guarantee that he will not bomb and ruin your lineup by missing the cut. At the very least, Cantlay can be a building block for a winning lineup. Since coming back from the pandemic suspension, he has proven he can be more than just a building block. In the two tournaments he’s played in since the PGA Tour returned, he finished 7th and 11th with 85 and 87 fantasy points respectively. When you factor in his 1.05X multiplier, he averaged 90.3 fantasy points per event in those two.
Not only has Cantlay been consistent in recent tournaments, but he has also been consistently good playing at Muirfield Village as well. In the last three years at the Memorial tournament, he has finished 1st, 4th, and 35th in 2017. If you include his 7th place finish this past weekend, that is three straight top 10 finishes at Muirfield Village. Even though his multiplier may not be as high as you would hope, his reliability makes him a worthwhile play.
Kevin Streelman 1.25X
Streelman was my high risk, high reward pick last week at 1.45X and boy was there a high reward if you ended up selecting him! Streelman came in 7th place at the Workday Charity Open with a score of 85 fantasy points. With his multiplier factored in, this number goes to a whopping value of 123.25 fantasy points. This is also off the heels of coming in 2nd place at the Travelers Championship where he finished in 2nd place with 104 fantasy points. While it feels like a dangerous game to bet on him again since he has shown that he can miss the cut, there is still some security in picking him.
His 7th place finishes this past weekend is an addition to an excellent track record playing Muirfield Village. In the last five years at the Memorial Tournament, he has finished 4th, 44th, 13th, 8th, and 18th. While his recent play has not been consistent, his play the Memorial Tournament is. Even though his multiplier value is down to 1.25X this week, I still believe he presents good value for your lineup.
Daniel Berger 1.25X
While he does not get the same type of publicity as guys like Bryson DeChambeau or Rory Mcilroy, Daniel Berger’s level of play recently has been on that level. In his last five tournaments, Berger has finished 3rd, 1st, 4th, 5th, and 9th. In that span, he averaged 91 fantasy points per event and the value goes up to 113.75 fantasy points with the 1.25X multiplier involved. The two recent performances of 3rd place at the RBC Heritage and 1st place at the Charles Schwab Challenge, have been the only events he has played in since the PGA Tour returned to play.
If you go back even further, he has made the cut in the last eight events, and the last time he missed it was at the Houston Open in October. The big concern here with Berger is his limited and poor history at the Memorial tournament. He played in 2016 and 2015 where he finished in 67th and missed the cut respectively. However, given how great he has been recently and the fact his multiplier is still at 1.25X, he is still more than worth having a spot in your lineup this week.
