Our multiplier game mode gives you an immense amount of freedom when building your lineups. If you wanted to, you could put together a full team of all stars. However, what typically allows you to win the big bucks are the lower-multiplier players who will break the slate with big performances. Here are four low-owned, low-multiplier players you wish you had last week!
Jalen Brunson 1.9X vs. Bulls (1/3/21):
31 points, 7 assists, 5 rebounds, 91.67 FP, 17.7% Owned
It is very easy to overlook Brunson on SuperDraft because there are rarely any times he actually gets to play as the starting point guard. In his short career in Dallas, those opportunities have always come when injuries have caused Luka Doncic or others to sit. Brunson has only played over 30 minutes in 28 games in his career and he averaged 16 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 5.6 assists per game in those games. This is a consistent level of performance you can rely on so you should always keep an eye out for injuries to Dallas’ backcourt to see if Brunson gets a spot start.
It is also not an accident Brunson went off against the Chicago Bulls. The Bulls so far this season are ranked 26th in defensive efficiency and given up the fifth-most fantasy points in the NBA to opposing point guards. I do not expect any of this to change as the Bulls do not have a single good defensive guard on their roster after losing Kris Dunn in the offseason. Given that another guard broke the slate this week against the Bulls, it is safe to say that scoring point guards vs the Bulls is a match-up you want to pay attention to.
RJ Barrett 1.6X vs. Hawks (1/4/21):
26 points, 11 rebounds, 5 assists, 88.4 FP, 9.4% owned
RJ Barrett being low-owned is entirely the fault of the circumstances he has been in. He was the third pick in the 2019 Draft behind two possible franchise-altering players in Zion Williamson and JA Morant. He was also on a Knicks team last season that did not give him a chance to be successful. It is now time to start taking Barrett seriously as the circumstances of the 2020 Knicks have changed in favor of him.
Barrett is being coached by Tom Thibodeau who is known for playing his best players huge minutes. RJ Barrett is second in the NBA in minutes per game at 38.1 only behind his teammate Julius Randle. Also, with Marcus Morris on the Clippers, he will be the #1 option on the perimeter for the Knicks. I fully believe the 17/7/3 stat line he is putting up is real and something you can rely on moving forward. This stat line has a chance to improve as Barrett still has a lot of untapped potential at 20 years old.
Juan Hernangomez 1.7X vs. Nuggets (1/5/21):
25 points, 8 rebounds, 84.15 FP, 0.2% owned
To the players who made up the 0.2% that snagged Hernangomez at 1.7X, you guys should be fortune tellers because I am not sure how anyone could have seen this coming. This was the only game Hernangomez played over 30 minutes in. The only possible reason for this is because he got hot in the first quarter. Hernangomez scored 10 points and pulled down two rebounds in the first quarter. He was not replacing an injured player so it only makes sense that he got hot and head coach Ryan Saunders decided to ride the hot hand.
Denver is currently 2nd to last in defensive efficiency at the moment so that definitely could have had a hand in why Hernangomez went off. However, Denver has almost the same personnel that finished in 17th last season on defense. I would not bank on Denver being bad defensively for very much longer with the roster they have and their defensive-minded coach Mike Malone leading the way.
Tyrese Haliburton 2X vs. Bulls (1/6/21):
17 points, 6 assists, 7 rebounds, 3 steals, 96.5 FP, 0.3% owned
Speaking of bad defensive teams, Haliburton is the 2nd point guard this week to have a slate breaking performance against the Chicago Bulls defense. Haliburton has been one of the more impressive rookies this season even playing as De’Aaron Fox’s backup. With Fox getting injured 5 minutes into the game against the Bulls, Haliburton played 34 minutes and he looked more than comfortable out on the floor.
It is fair for Haliburton to be low-owned because he would have not exploded without Fox’s injury. However, if Fox, Buddy Hield or Cory Joseph have to miss a game, you should be ready to pounce and play Haliburton as long as he is at a low multiplier.
