Every week during the NBA season, I’ll bring you my NBA SuperDraft breakdown. Once a week, I’ll break down and analyze that night’s slate of NBA games. I will be returning the next day to recap the results.
With the unique twist of the projection “multiplier,” rather than the standard salary cap, adding an extra layer to the lineup building process, it’s important to measure a player’s upside in comparison to their multiplier.
Basketball is typically the easiest sport to project due to the lower amount of variance. With that being the case, finding the best value, or highest projected scores after the multiplier should be priority one. However, we also want to be sure to avoid building negatively correlated lineups. For example, if two players will eat into each other’s productions/opportunities they will often have a negative correlation.
As always, be sure to monitor injury issues and make sure you are confirming that each player listed in the article is playing before rostering them in your SuperDraft lineups.
The Plays
Cedi Osman, Cleveland Cavaliers (1.85x score multiplier)
Osman got the start last game with Darius Garland out, and I expect him to get into the starting five once again. Last game, he played 38 minutes and saw a nice usage rate of nearly 23%, a pretty large increase over his season average as he got some ball-handling duties. He also has a great matchup against the Rockets, and the huge multiplier should carry him to a big night.
Isaiah Jackson, Indiana Pacers (1.8x)
With Goga Bitadze and Domantas Sabonis already ruled out, Jackson should start again here. He played 30 minutes and had a very nice usage rate up over 27%. Jackson is a strong per-minute producer as we saw last game where he went for nearly 50 fantasy points before a multiplier.
Nikola Jokic, Denver Nuggets (1x)
There are quite a few strong center options on the board Wednesday, but many of them actually have PF eligibility as well, so it’s pretty easy to fit Jokic alongside some of those names. Jokic is going to get a matchup against Hassan Whiteside, which he should be able to thoroughly take advantage of.
I have been finding some success recently at really keying in on guys with the great multipliers, it is super easy to get in several superstars because of the no-salary structure. But with all of these players being ruled out, three are constantly guys stepping into better roles than expected, and their multiplier remains higher because of the news that is coming in after the multipliers were set.
