Tuesday’s NBA DFS slate was a bit wonky, as much of the popular chalk (LeBron James, Spurs value) did not pan out. On such a short slate when the chalk doesn’t pan out, you’re likely to see some incredibly unusual lineups at the top of leaderboards. With blowouts in more than one of the five games on the slate, let’s recap what went well and what didn’t in our SuperDraft picks on Tuesday’s slate.
Below is a recap of how Tuesday’s recommended plays panned out.
Fred VanVleet, TOR (1.2x score multiplier)
VanVleet was an unpopular play Tuesday, likely due to the fact that Toronto had returned all of their key pieces from the COVID-19 list and with a plethora of other guards in great matchups. This came as a huge bonus for managers that rostered VanVleet, as he put up 33 points, seven assists and a pair of steals on the back of seven made three-pointers. Finishing as a top-four scorer on the slate, VanVleet was a staple among top-scoring lineups.
Duane Washington and Keifer Sykes, IND (1.8x, 1.85x)
With both Caris LeVert and Malcolm Brogdon sidelined Tuesday, both of these cheap guards stepped up in the starting lineup and performed well once again. Sykes had more of a standout game, posting 22 points, six assists and four boards, while Washington put together a serviceable 17-point, 4-assist performance. At their high multipliers, they were two of the popular “values” of the slate and they rewarded those that trusted them.
Domantas Sabonis, IND (1.15x)
While the aforementioned Pacers played well, Sabonis did not. He got almost nothing going against the defensive combination of Mitchell Robinson and Taj Gibson, finishing with 15 points, eight rebounds and four assists. Considering how thin the Pacers are, this is a downright disappointing stat line for one of the most versatile big men in basketball.
Jalen Smith, PHO (1.65x)
Smith has been filling in admirably for the sidelined duo of Deandre Ayton and JaVale McGee and drew a third consecutive start on Tuesday. Dealing with a tough matchup against Jonas Valanciunas, Smith took a shot in the second quarter and missed about a rotation and a half as he was being tended to in the locker room. While he was able to return, his finishing line of 12 points and five rebounds with a block was a far cry from the pace he was on pre-injury.
Jonas Valanciunas, NOP (1.25x)
On the opposite side of the aforementioned game, Valanciunas was incredibly productive. He finished with a 25-point, 16-rebound double-double and added a pair of assists (and a shot to the face on Jalen Smith). With his 25% scoring boost, he finished as one of the most productive centers on the slate.
Damian Jones, SAC (1.75x)
While some other high-multiplier chalk worked out, Jones did not do the same. After a productive double-double in his last start, Jones struggled against a smaller Lakers’ lineup. Posting only 11 points and four rebounds, he was virtually erased from the glass as he was constantly drawn away from the rim defensively against the smaller lineup.
