NLCS Game 5 between the Braves and Dodgers did not disappoint for fantasy, with a couple of enormous performances. Let’s check out how we did and start with the players I had my eye on most.
Pitchers
Max Fried was the only true starting pitcher in the game as the Dodgers went with a bullpen game. He started off well, putting a zero on the scoreboard plus a strikeout. It all went downhill from there for Fried, as he gave up two home runs in the second inning and eventually allowed five earned runs on eight hits in 4.2 innings with just three strikeouts. His performance scored just 0.45 fantasy points, so I’m glad I kept him in Superflex. I mentioned I didn’t feel comfortable rostering any of the Dodgers pitchers except for maybe Max Scherzer if you really wanted to get different. The Dodgers went up by four and the bullpen was pitching well, so Scherzer never made an appearance and will start in Game 6.
Hitters
We got off to a great start with my favorite Champion, Freddie Freeman, crushing a two-run home run off Joe Kelly in the first inning. His 2.85x multiplier at Champion made that home run worth 47.02 fantasy points. Unfortunately, it was the only at-bat he would score points in, but it was more than enough. Eddie Rosario was the other Braves hitter I was on and he stayed hot, collecting two hits, including his first double of the postseason. His 2x multiplier in the Superflex spot gave him 12 fantasy points. For the Dodgers hitters, both Mookie Betts and Trea Turner had good performances as well. Betts recorded just one single but stole a base and scored a run. With his 1.9x multiplier, this was good enough for 16.15 points. Turner had his best game of the postseason, reaching bases four times thanks to three singles and a hit-by-pitch. He also scored a run and knocked in his first run of the postseason. All of that was enough for 20.25 fantasy points with a 1.5x multiplier.
Slate Overview
I’m happy with the performance of all my hitters. Things could have been much better if Fried was able to limit the damage and grab some more strikeouts. Chris Taylor had an enormous night, becoming the first player ever to hit three home runs in an elimination game. With a 2.3x multiplier, he scored an insane 118.45 fantasy points at the Superflex spot or 177.67 in the Champion spot. A.J. Pollock also had a huge night with two home runs and a 1.8x multiplier scoring 67.5 points, 101.25 in the Champion spot. Ultimately a solid slate with all four of my hitters doing well and a very entertaining game.
