Week 7’s Thursday night NFL game is not the most attractive game, especially with the Browns missing three of their top offensive weapons in Baker Mayfield, Nick Chubb and Kareem Hunt (and it appears probably Odell Beckham as well). What these absences do, however, is free up some extremely generous multipliers on SuperDraft DFS that we may not have had otherwise.
Below are my top three plays for the Thursday game between the Broncos and the Browns on SuperDraft DFS.
Case Keenum, QB, Cleveland Browns (1.75x score multiplier)
Keenum will step in for the injured Baker Mayfield tonight. Without his two star running backs, he’ll have to get creative on how the Browns move the chains. Keenum has not played a ton over the last two seasons, but since the start of 2019, has averaged 284.5 passing yards and two touchdowns per game in games where he’s seen at least 60 snaps. That alone will get the job done, even if it isn’t pretty. It’s not often that you come across a 1.75x multiplier for a quarterback, so even against a stout defense, this is a phenomenal play.
D’Ernest Johnson (1.75x)/Demetric Felton (1.95x), RB, Cleveland Browns
Similar to Keenum, the Browns backfield is muddled with injuries. This has thrust both Johnson and Felton into a 1A and 1B role. We’re expecting something similar to what we’ve become accustomed to with Nick Chubb and Kareem Hunt.
There isn’t much to say about what these guys have done with additional opportunities because this is the first time for both of them. What is important is that the Browns currently run at the third-highest rate in football (50%), one season after running at the fourth-highest clip (47.78%). While the passing game is sure to get more involved with only backup running backs available, Cleveland certainly won’t abandon the run completely. With Johnson pegged for the early-down work and Felton as the change-of-pace back, both are viable at their generous multipliers. The difference simply comes in how you script your lineup.
Noah Fant, TE, Denver Broncos (1.85x)
Fant benefitted as one of the only healthy pass-catchers in Denver last week. He garnered nine catches on 11 targets, totaling 97 yards, and a touchdown on 89% of the offensive snaps. Week 6 marked the fourth game in a row that Fant has played over 85% of the snaps and the second time in three weeks where he’s seen double-digit targets.
The tight end position is one to exploit against the Browns and Fant should be heavily involved regardless of who’s throwing him the ball.
