In an effort to be held to as high a standard as possible, we will review the process and picks that were made to see where we crushed and where we could improve so that we can all grow and attack next week as even better DFS players. As the old saying goes – if you’re not getting better, you’re getting worse.
The Good
If you followed the advice and chose any or multiple of the running backs we listed, you likely were off to a good start. The lone exception was Bijan Robinson. Despite a respectable 20-137-1 line, he was not able to put up a ceiling game. Robinson was outplayed statistically by his Oklahoma counterpart Kennedy Brooks. The OK stadout managed a ridiculous 25-217-2 effort in the Sooners’ epic comeback.
The other players we discussed- Treyvon Henderson, Kenneth Walker III and the Ole Miss pairing of Henry Parrish and Snoop Conner (both of whom went over 100 yards and Parrish had 3 TDs) – all smashed. Considering their respective multipliers, it was an impressive fantasy performance.
The Bad
Almost everything else went poorly. The Maryland stack got off to a terrible start with Jeshaun Jones being carted off the field on the second offensive snap of the game. Any hopes that this would further condense the fantasy point distribution to an already intriguing Ricky Jarrett were dashed as well. Ohio State was able to easily stifle any offensive production. Taulia Tagovailoa and Jarrett were able to connect for a touchdown late in extreme garbage time, but that wouldn’t be anywhere enough for our purposes on an extremely high-scoring slate.
We also got the Virginia/Louisville game both right and wrong. Brennan Armstrong held up his end of the bargain, but Malik Cunningham didn’t put up the gaudy numbers to which we have become accustomed. The majority of the Louisville production came from the running game – and from Hassan Haskins at that, not even from Jalen Mitchell. The passing games from both teams were heavily diversified. The elite deep threat Dontayvion Wicks unable to break loose and Ra’Shaun Henry being the alpha du juor in the explosive Cavalier’s offense this week.
The Ugly
In addition to getting crushed by the Maryland game, Spencer Rattler was so ineffective that he got benched. His replacement, Caleb Williams, led the Sooners to victory. That’s not what you want to see from a guy once thought of as a Heisman front runner. It will be interesting to see where OU and Lincoln Riley go from here. We also missed out on two ceiling performances from Kennedy Brooks and Xavier Worthy in that game. We were mainly on the Texas running game and the Oklahoma passing game, and those sources of production were flip-flopped.
Finally, we will need to start considering Baylor. Gerry Bohanon put up yet another stellar outing. He facilitated multiple TD performances from multiple WRs and even rushed for a TD of his own for good measure. We’ll need to learn from this, as Baylor’s offense is as explosive as it’s been in a long time.
