Despite the Packers missing their top two wide receivers due to COVID-19 protocols, Week 8’s Thursday Night Football game provided fireworks and more entertainment than most had anticipated given the absences heading into the game. With the Packers squeaking out a 24-21 win, there were enough fantasy points to see some gaudy scoring lineups, especially on SuperDraft.
Below is the recap of my top 3 Thursday Night Football Picks and how they performed on SuperDraft.
Aaron Jones, RB, Green Bay Packers (1.35x score multiplier)
Jones was leaned on early and often for the Packers, leading the team with seven receptions for 51 yards and adding 15 carries for 59 yards and a touchdown. While he led the team in scoring, he actually took a back seat to AJ Dillon on the ground, who led the Packers with 16 rushing attempts. It was Jones, however, who posted the far more productive stat line. With his production in both the air and on the ground, Jones ended with 20.5 fantasy points, 27.68 after his 1.35x multiplier kicked in.
Randall Cobb, WR, Green Bay Packers (2.2x)
Cobb got off to a very quiet start. It was the aforementioned Jones who led the team and receiving, and with the Packers running backs totaling 31 carries, there wasn’t a massive amount of room for the receivers to get chunk yardage.
Even with that being the case, Cobb was able to salvage his three receptions (on five targets) and 15 yards by adding a pair of receiving touchdowns. With his 2.2x multiplier, this was the best you could’ve hoped for only amassing three targets for minimal yardage. Finishing with 33 fantasy points after his multiplier, Cobb rode his touchdown equity to a spot in most winning lineups.
DeAndre Hopkins, WR, Arizona Cardinals (1.4x)
Hopkins was, surprisingly, the most disappointing piece of these three players. Despite leading the Cardinals in receiving yards (66), he did so on the back of only two receptions (on two targets).
He spent the majority of the game on the sidelines nursing a hamstring injury. Occasionally he would return to play, but he clearly was not healthy enough to be anything more than a decoy on the field. He finished with 7.6 fantasy points, 10.64 after his 1.4x multiplier, and was far from a necessity in winning lineups.
