Trevor Lawrence is big in the dfs standouts this week.

We’re still a few days away from locking in our NFL DFS main slate lineups for Week 5, but it’s always an advantage to get a head start on roster construction for Sunday. Each week this NFL season I will be penning this midweek article to point out some of the standout plays as we work our way through the week.

NFL Week 5 Plays

Quarterback

Trevor Lawrence, Jacksonville Jaguars (1.55x score multiplier)

The No. 1 overall pick has had a rocky start to his career from both an NFL and a fantasy standpoint. But we saw flashes of improvement from both perspectives last week against the Bengals. Now coming off 10 days’ rest, the Jaguars face a divisional matchup against the Titans and their below-average secondary. Even with D.J. Chark lost for the year, I’m still a believer that Lawrence can get things done fantasy-wise with the weapons the remain at his disposal. At this high multiplier, I will have a significant amount of the Jaguars signal-caller in Week 5.

Trey Lance, San Francisco 49ers (1.65x)

Back-to-back rookies in the QB section this week. With Jimmy Garoppolo likely out due to injury, the third overall pick should get his first NFL start this week against division rival Arizona. We saw the upside the rookie possesses when he took over under center to start the second half last week. Lance put up 18.38 SuperDraft points in two quarters of play. Even in a tougher matchup this week he’s impossible to ignore. I see Lance as having the highest fantasy ceiling on the slate, multipliers considered.

Running back

Derrick Henry, Tennessee Titans (1x)

A rare floor multiplier recommendation from me here. The big Titans back continues to rumble for massive fantasy games week in and week out. With A.J. Brown and Julio Jones uncertain again as of this writing. That looks like the recipe for another week of 30-plus carries is there for King Henry. To make matters worse for opposing defenses, Tennessee has begun to feature the typically receiving-adverse back in the screen game. Adding in a couple of possible receptions to Henry’s weekly projection just doesn’t seem fair. I’m interested in rostering Henry for his high fantasy floor here and take shots on higher multipliers elsewhere in my lineup.

Saquon Barkley, New York Giants (1.45x)

Running it back (heh heh) with Barkley for a third straight week. The fourth-year man for the Giants is fully integrated back into this offense after a slow progression in his return from a devastating knee injury last season. Barkley saw a season-high 89% of the snaps in Week 4 against the Saints’ stout defense. He got 19 opportunities and turned them into 126 total yards and two touchdowns including the game-winner in overtime. His multiplier actually climbed after that performance and with a matchup against division rival Dallas on tap, I see Barkley putting up another huge fantasy performance. I love him at this elevated multiplier.

Wide receiver

Ja’Marr Chase, Cincinnati Bengals (1.4x)

Boy, are my lineups going to be heavy on rookies this week. The Bengals’ first-round pick came out of the gates on absolute fire. He has visited the end zone in each of his first three games. While he didn’t hit paydirt against Jacksonville in Week 4, he did see a season-high nine targets from Burrow. The former college teammates seem to be in a fantastic rhythm. The matchup against Green Bay looks extra tasty with stud cornerback Jaire Alexander out for the Packers. Expect Chase to be targeted early and often at home this week. A touchdown on top of his expected volume at this multiplier could help vault you to the top of the leaderboards.

Marvin Jones, Jacksonville Jaguars (1.5x)

I’m always looking to stack up some pass catchers with my favorite QB targets. With D.J. Chark out for the year, I like Marvin Jones to step up on an already impressive start to the season. Jones is a big-time threat in the red zone, something that he has carried with him from his days in Detroit. With receiving touchdowns in two of the Jaguars’ four games and the track record of putting up multi-touchdown games throughout his career, I will be stacking the sure-handed wideout with his QB this week.

Tight end

Mike Gesicki, Miami Dolphins (1.55x)

The Dolphins’ tight end is seemingly back from the fantasy dead, revived by his backup quarterback Jacoby Brissett. Brissett has been hyper-targeting him since he took over in place of the injured Tua Tagovailoa. Gesicki has 18 targets in his last two games alone, and we’ve seen for years that he can produce at a high clip for fantasy managers when given the opportunity. At this multiplier and Brissett scheduled for another start, I’ll have shares of the Miami tight end in my lineups this week.

Dan Arnold, Jacksonville Jaguars (2x)

With the typical “stud” tier of tight ends correctly priced with low multipliers this week, I’m looking for some home run shots at the position. Enter Dan Arnold, traded before Week 4 from the Panthers to the Jaguars. QB Trevor Lawrence has targeted his various tight ends heavily through the first four weeks, and Arnold is poised to grab a stranglehold of the position in this offense. He caught his only two targets last week against the Bengals, and I think his target share will only increase as he develops more of a rapport with the rookie QB. For the highest possible multiplier on the slate, I’ll take a shot and stack him with Lawrence in some lineups. If you want to fully game stack this matchup, you could roster Lawrence, Marvin Jones, and Arnold, then run back Derrick Henry on the other side of this game. How you build out the rest is up to you, but I will have at least one or two versions of that game stack in my GPP lineups.
