Here we are going to break down every type of bet you can utilize in our Free-To-Play Sportsbook App. Once you fully understand each of these concepts, you will be ready to dive in and start winning prizes! Let’s get going with the most common type of bet people like to use.

Spread:

When you bet against the spread you are betting against the margin of victory or defeat. You will see a minus (-) a certain amount of points on the team that is the favorite to win and a plus (+) a certain amount of points on the underdog. Let’s take a look at the Texas vs. Texas Christian game below as an example:

You can see the Texas Longhorns have a spread of -7.5 tied to them and the Texas Christian Horn frogs have a +7.5 spread tied to them. If you bet on Texas with the spread, this means you are betting on them to win the game by at least more than 7.5 points. If you bet on Texas Christian, you are betting them to outscore Texas while also being given 7.5 points. Essentially Texas Christian is being given 7.5 points to start the game and you have to bet who wins considering that. Now to a much more cut and dry bet:

Moneyline:

The moneyline is simple. You are just picking which team you think is going to win the game outright. However, the catch with moneyline bets are the odds tied to it. Let’s take the Penn State – Maryland game that is featured in the screenshot below as an example.

Penn State has odds of +210 on the moneyline and Maryland has odds of -263 on the moneyline. If you want to bet Maryland, the payout will be less than if you bet on Penn St.

Because Maryland is the favorite, they get worse odds when you pick them to win the game outright on the moneyline than Penn St. That is the dilemma with moneyline bets. It could be an easy win to go with the favorite but the winnings are limited by the odds. The chances are not as good with the underdog but you would win more if you hit the pick. It is then up to you to make your wager!

Prop:

A prop bet is a wager on a specific player or event. For example, in a basketball game you could bet on how many rebounds a player will get, how many three pointers a team will hit, or something as simple as will the final score number be odd or even:

Parlay:

A parlay is where you can start shooting for some big money. This is a bet where it is contingent to the outcomes of two or more wagers. Staying with our previous examples, you have the ability to have the Maryland moneyline and the Texas moneyline be part of the same bet. So in this example, for you to win the bet, Maryland and Texas will both have to win. Here is what it looks like visually:

You can see that the odds and payout are better than betting these two games individually because the parlay bet needs both teams to win in order to hit. Parlays are the key to getting a big prize for betting on favorites. Betting on one favorite to win does not give you a good payout but when you throw 2 or 3 in a parlay, that changes things! Totals

A total bet might be the most simple bet there is. You are simply betting over or under for the number of points scored in a game. For example, for the Penn State/Maryland game we have been discussing here, you can see the total for that game is 136 points. To bet this, you simply choose if you think the point total between the two teams will be over or under 136 points.
